Processed Food

These foods are always high in sugar and this makes them high glycemic index foods. They cause an extraordinary elevation in blood sugar levels, thereby signaling the fat storage cascade. They also contain a lot of “extra stuff”. Chemicals, compounds, toxins, and other ingredients that are difficult to process and clear. This makes weight loss even more difficult.

Common examples of processed foods include; cereals, cake, crackers, donuts, any baked goods, muffins, danishes, bagels, smoothies, frozen meals, tomato sauce, pies, and high sugar coffee based drinks (lattes, mochas, etc).

Other processed foods that you may not recognize are hydrogenated fats, artificial sweeteners, margarine, high fructose corn syrup, soy products and soy milk and many others.

Ready to Eat Processed Foods

These are usually found in those microwaveable lunch and dinner meals. Although, these quick packaged meals may be low in calories and supposedly healthy, they are contributing to your inability to lose weight. We see people all the time that bring these packaged meals to work. They eat one every day for lunch. Or they subscribe to a diet plan that sends them these ready to eat meals. Do they ever end up losing weight? No. Why not?

Why do these products slow down weight loss? First of all, they contain too many carbohydrates. You can’t burn fat eating that many carbs. Secondly, they interfere with the body’s ability to burn fat. The liver is responsible for clearing these chemical products from our bodies. The liver is also responsible for burning fat. If it has to do one job more than the other, it can’t do the other one well. Have you tried working two full time jobs?

If you are stuffing yourself with processed foods, your liver will be busy trying to clear all of that junk out, instead of trying to burn fat. Don’t let this happen!
